Say “hypnosis” and almost everybody starts thinking about some weird tricks, a person becoming an automation subject to the bidding hypnotist or forced to do things against their will. In reality, nothing is further from the truth! No one can make you do anything against your will.
So then, what is hypnosis and how does it work? Hypnosis is a way to re-program or re-educate your unconscious mind. This means it will change your habitual responses or the way you instinctively feel about things.
Fear of cold-calling anybody?
Think about cold calling for example – for a lot of people this is a stressful prospect, having to call a perfect stranger, knowing well enough that most likely they will slam the receiver down. Using hypnosis, you change your automatic response to be more positive. This is how it happens. First you relax and imagine you start feeling good. Once you achieve this feel-good state, you can start imagining yourself cold calling strangers, yet controlling the way you want to feel about the situation. Slowly but surely, over a number of such sessions, you will slowly reprogram your unconscious mind to feel good and confident about cold calling.
Obviously the example above is greatly simplified, but it gives us a good peek into how hypnosis works. The applications of hypnosis are truly unlimited – quit smoking, lose weight or build charisma – to name just a few.
If you are still skeptical that you can reprogram your mind, just think about the last dream you had. It felt real, didn’t it? Yet it was “just” a dream. This proves how powerful your mind is.
